Blue Jays One Step Away of Victory After Rookie Phenom Dominates Los Angeles in Fifth Match

Trey Yesavage turned in a legendary performance and Schneider connected for a homer on the opening pitch as the Blue Jays beat the Los Angeles Dodgers six to one on Wednesday evening, moving within one victory of their first World Series championship since the 1993 season.

Yesavage's Historic Outing

The 22-year-old Yesavage, who debuted in the majors this past September, recorded 12 strikeouts and zero walks – setting a new World Series record. The first-year pitcher allowed one run on three hits across seven innings. He began the year pitching before a few hundred fans in Class A ball, but has now started and won two of Toronto’s three victories in this best-of-seven series.

Early Offensive Explosion

Toronto’s hitters gave him breathing room almost immediately. On the initial throw, Schneider drilled a 97-mile-per-hour heater and drove it over the left-field wall. Just moments later, Vladimir Guerrero Jr followed with another blast to almost the exact same place. It marked the first time in World Series history that back-to-back homers started a game, shocking the spectators before most had found their seats.

The Pitcher's Dominance

Yesavage then took over. He fanned five in a row between the second and third innings, setting a rookie record before Kiké Hernández finally broke the streak with a solo homer in the bottom of the third to make it two to one. That was the Dodgers' closest approach.

Extending the Lead

In the fourth, Daulton Varsho tripled down the right-field line after a defensive mistake, and Ernie Clement hit a sac fly to score him for a three to one lead. The Los Angeles offense continued to sputter from there. After managing six runs in a lengthy extra-inning contest, they’ve produced just four runs in their last 29 innings.

Late Inning Insurance

The Dodgers starter persisted for over six frames but was chased in the seventh after the bases were packed. The runners he allowed both crossed the plate – one on a wild pitch and another on an RBI single – to make it 5–1. A eighth-inning base hit provided the last run.

Bullpen Secures the Win

Yesavage was cheered off the field from the traveling fans, and the pen closed it out. The bullpen arms each worked a scoreless inning to close it out, fanning three batters collectively while preserving the rookie’s masterpiece.

Dodgers' Lineup Shuffle Falters

The Dodgers, who adjusted their lineup in hopes of igniting the offense, again couldn't find momentum. Their star slugger went without a hit in four trips and is now without a hit in his last seven appearances since setting a World Series on-base record in the third game.

On the Verge of a Championship

Now up 3–2, Toronto go back to their own stadium with two chances to clinch. Friday evening features Game 6 at Toronto's ballpark.
